The Tempest
One of Shakespeare's most powerful plays, The Tempest shows Prospero -the banished Duke of Milan- magically orchestrate the shipwreck of his usurpers. They arrive on his enchanted island, all believing their fellows to be drowned. Prospero, with his spirit servant Ariel, contrives to confront the shipwrecked nobles with their guilt and steer them towards remorse. At the same time, his bitter servant Caliban, together with the King of Naples' drunken butler and jester, plots to assasinate Prospero and ravage his daughter Miranda. She, meanwhile, has fallen in love with the King of Naples' son, Ferdinand. This breathtaking story combines themes of Love, Power, Freedom, Revenge and Forgiveness with Shakespeare's usual effortless fluency.
