During her life Margaret Parkes was a dedicated and influential champion of many great causes and organisations. From its earliest days she was a great friend of Festival Arts. Holidays in Pembrokeshire from the 1960s onwards brought her into annual contact with Festival Arts and its performances. For many years she, her husband Sir Edward and her family would be a familiar sight in the audience at the Bishop's Palace as well as the many other venues we have used over our 40 years. An experienced teacher, lecturer and administrator she was a member of a host of educational committees and worked tirelessly on behalf of many voluntary organisations. A lecturer in Sociology at Homerton College, Cambridge, during the 1960s and 70s, over the years Lady Parkes was to have a wide influence upon the field of education. In addition to this Lady Parkes was a member of the Press Council and in 1984 she was appointed a BBC governor. It was with great sadness that we learned of her death in 2007.

The location for the family production of our 2009 season has finally been determined as Mathry Community Hall (SA62 5HD). Mathry is a hilltop village on the main Fishguard Road near St Davids, with spectacular views down to the sea.

...before our first performance of Richard III in the St Davids Bishop's Palace.

It's all hands on deck as props are made, lighting is designed, costumes are allocated, lines are recited and music is arranged. In seven days' time, all of this year's Festival Arts cast and crew will head down to Pembrokshire in a convoy of minibuses and a big truck, and will spend the next week with a gruelling but exciting rehearsal schedule. Everyone will stay in tents, so there are many reasons to hope the weather will stay gorgeous!
If you want to check out when we are playing which show, please go to our event calendar, for our official Press Release, please see this page.
TICKETS
Tickets will be on sale via our Box Office (in St Davids, directly across from the City Hall, in front of the Coach House Bed & Breakfast), or by calling [number not available outside summer season]

Festival Arts 40th - At the Council House |

On Friday the 16th January, we all rushed home to change. Some were hurtling up motorways and along railways, although we hadn’t been able to invite everyone – sorry. The 25 we were allowed gathered at the Council House, not absolutely sure how our evening was going to go.
Festival Arts had been offered a reception by the Lord Mayor in recognition of our 40th season. We couldn’t all go, so we chose a representative sample ranging from founder members still involved to those with two or three festivals under their belts. It was important for everyone to be able to talk intelligently about it!
